To discover Adelaide in just 1 day and to get the most out of our captivating city we recommend the following experiences:
The Adelaide Visitor Guide(opens in a new tab) contains great information on all these experiences.
Start your day off in the city of Festivals at the Adelaide Central Market(opens in a new tab), open Tuesday-Saturday. It’s a great spot to grab breakfast and it’s always quieter in the morning, so spend an hour or two exploring at your own pace.
Then come on a tour with us of course! We have the Ultimate Adelaide Tour which departs everyday at 10am and will help you get orientated to the city, learn the city’s culture and history as well as discover historic Adelaide Arcade(opens in a new tab), wander Rundle Mall(opens in a new tab) and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the River Torrens.
Our tour provides a great introduction to this captivating city and sets you up for an afternoon of further discovery. For more cultural and historical learnings, head over to the North Terrace cultural precinct. You have The Art Gallery of South Australia(opens in a new tab) with over 38 000 pieces of art, the State Library(opens in a new tab) which has been described as one of the most beautiful in the world, the SA Museum(opens in a new tab) with the largest collection of indigenous Australian artefacts in the world and the beautiful Botanic Gardens.(opens in a new tab) All are within a short distance of each other along one of our main city boulevards.
If you prefer more beautiful scenery then a cruise along the river Torrens with Popeye Cruises(opens in a new tab), which has been operating for over 100 years, is an essential experience. Or if sports is more your thing then a tour of the Adelaide Oval(opens in a new tab) or an exhilarating walk along its roofline(opens in a new tab) could be for you.
To finish off your day, you should jump on a city tram and head out to the beachside suburb of Glenelg(opens in a new tab). Stunning sunsets over the water, top restaurants and relaxed bar drinks await you to round out your day in Adelaide.
If you have a second day in our beautiful city then we would recommend to add in either our Discover Glenelg Tour or Hidden Adelaide: Laneways and Street art Tour to learn more about our city and suburbs.
You could then add in visits to the Adelaide Gaol, MOD Museum or catching the free City Connector bus loop (the 98 buses) from East Terrace up to North Adelaide. This is the city’s first planned residential area and where you’ll find Adelaide’s finest stone cottages and mansions as well as good shopping and eating options along O’ Connell or Melbourne streets.
For other eating options Chinatown, behind the Central Market, is a great spot for dumplings, noodle soups and other Asian cuisine delights. The East end of town along Rundle street, East Terrace and Vardon avenue has some fine dining options such as Daughter in Law, Africola, Paper Tiger and Golden Boy. An alternative to the East end would be our Western Precinct with the great dining streets of Leigh Street and Peel st located in it. Some great dining options here are Fugazzi, Corner Bistro, Bread and Bone and Peel St Restaurant.
